Picture
Startling.  Graphic.  Emotional.  Candid.
“Donovan” The Movie is based on the true story of Jason Bees’s lived experience with Bipolar Disorder.
Donovan Drake is a creative director for a large advertising agency, divorced, whose ex-wife has custody of his four-year-old son, Evan, whom he sees on a very limited visitation schedule.

While “doctor shopping” to get a note for his upcoming visitation hearing, Donovan meets Dr. Cray, his fifth doctor, a very non-traditional psychiatrist. Even though Dr. Cray (Dr. Bow-tie) has made recommendations based on his diagnosis, Donovan is in total denial that he has a severe mental illness and refuses to take his medications.

To make matters worse, the new “woman”, Jessica, who is clearly after his money, fires up Donovan into the phase of mania and leads him onto a path of self-destruction.

Throughout the movie, Donovan displays very typical symptoms of Bipolar Disorder I; rage, grandiose ideas, paranoia, violent tendencies (even self inflicted), the list goes on.

One of the pivotal points in the movie is when Donovan has a major episode at work which inevitably ends his career.
After losing everything in his life he returns to Dr. Cray, finally accepting his diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder, and begins his journey to wellness.

“Donovan” The Movie, in my opinion, has a realistic plot of someone struggling with Bipolar Disorder I.  Although Jason Bee’s production does not have the typical movie-star-actors nor the budget, I highly recommend watching it as it portrays more real-life footage that other mental illness movies I have seen.

**Warning The producer suggests this movie to be  Rated  - G due to the violent and sexual content.
