Molly McHugh, the author, has been through a lot in her life.  From being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder 1, a chronic daily pain illness, fibromyalgia, and hypothyroidism, all while being a single mom.
In “Bipolar Disorder 1:  How to Survive and Thrive”, Molly travels through time, from her initial onset, at university, her many hospitalizations, various medical treatments, and her many attempts at entering society, all while going through deep depression or mania.

While the author tried the typical medications regimes by her numerous psychiatrists, none of them worked to control the symptoms of her mental illness.

Molly McHugh, shares 10 alternative ways to help the reader thrive, either in conjunction with their current medications therapy or alone.

During her thrive to survive, her being tested and treated for her hypothyroidism has been very beneficial for her mental wellness.  In addition, Molly chose to go through the unconventional route of no longer taking pharmaceuticals, to a more holistic approach, and a change her entire lifestyle.

Through this very unique book, Molly McHugh believes these changes has allowed her to become more balanced for the past 26 years, with a few minor ups and downs, in order for her not only to enjoy her life traveling abroad and being a free lance photographer, but her primary force for her mental wellness was and is to be a supportive and loving single mother for her son.
